The Big difference In between Que And Cual/Cuales In Spanish

The change in between Qué and Cuál in Spanish is generally an issue of problem to students of Spanish whose native language is English and who can’t do a literal translation into their very own language. In this lesson we will get a glance at the dissimilarities in between the two text.

For starters, let´s see what occurs with the verb SER.

Qué es: this sort implies the concern for a definition.
¿Qué es un gato?/ What is a cat?

Un gato es un animal felino y pequeño, que suele tenerse como mascota. / A cat is a feline and tiny animal, generally taken as a pet.

Cuál es: This is a concern for an election. From a homogeneous team, you have a selection. You want to know a title.

¿Cuál es tu película favorita? (from all the possible films)/ What is your beloved film?

Mi película favorita es Terminator./ My beloved film is Terminator.

¿Cuál es la money de Argentina? (from all the possible capitals)/ What is the money of Argentina?

La money de Argentina es Buenos Aires./ The money of Argentina is Buenos Aires

¿Cuál es tu nombre? (from a lengthy checklist of possible names)/ Which is your title?
Mi nombre es Anna./ My title is Anna.

When the concern is “cuál es” you need to only reply with an solution, but this concern has a variation in plural, in which you can reply with a lot more than just one solution.
¿Cuáles son tus libros favoritos?/ What are your beloved textbooks?
Mis libros favoritos son “Cien años de Soledad” y “13,ninety nine euros”. My favorites textbooks are “Cien años de Soledad” and “13,ninety nine euros”.

¿Cuáles son los colores que más te gustan?/ What are the colours you like the most?
Los colores que más me gustan son el rojo y el azul./ The colours I like the most are the pink and blue.

Qué + Verb

When I question: ¿Qué quieres tomar?/ What do you want to consume?, I am not supplying you solutions, you can respond to something from an heterogeneous team: café (coffe), leche (milk), agua (water), cerveza (beer), licuado de frutilla (strawberry smoothie), etcetera.
Or: ¿Qué cocinamos, pizza o empanadas?/ What need to we prepare dinner, pizza or empanadas?

Cuál + Verb

When I question you: ¿Cuál prefieres?/ Which do you want?, I have some solutions for you, and I´m demonstrating these from a desk or I have them in my hands: ¿Cuál prefieres, ésta o ésta?/ Which do you want, this or this?

We can question the exact working with Qué + the noun + Verb.
¿Qué bebida prefieres?/ What consume do you want?
¿Qué color te gusta más?/ What color do you like a lot more?
